I am a Head of English in a UK secondary school, qualified to teach from 11-16 in KS3 & KS4 English Language and Literature. I have also been teaching GCSE Film Studies for the last 3 years.

About Emily
Stereotypically as an English teacher, I love to read! I have a great passion for stories, whether it is reading for understanding, reading for critical thinking or writing creative fiction, I am all about students exploring their creativity and expression through fiction which reflects the world around us. English isn't just about fiction and the world of non-fiction is just as critical in giving students a voice and understanding of the world around them.
As a tutor, I want to support young people in being able to read, understand and critically think about the information given to them and foster their ability to express themselves through writing and oracy to express their own opinions and ideas.

I can offer 1 hour tuition in KS3 English, KS4 English Language and/or English Literature and KS4 Film Studies.
All students learn differently and I can adapt my teaching to meet all students' needs. With a free first lesson, we can look together at strategies that will best support your young person make the progress they are looking for, closing gaps and misconceptions in learning and utilising their current strengths in the subject.
I have been teaching for 8 years, the last 3 as a Film Teacher and Head of English. Prior to this I was also a Literacy Lead in school, specialising in reading improvement.
I am passionate about reading, writing and promoting a general love of learning which the teaching of English opens a doorway to. I have a good track record of teaching at all abilities and securing students grades at G4-G9 at GCSE. I have previously tutored at GCSE level, 1:1 and look forward to supporting more students boost their confidence and achieve their goals.
