About Carmen

I’ve been teaching reading to elementary age students for 13 years. I have been trained in multiple Orton-Gillingham reading programs - Phonics First, Fundations, and IMSE. I have helped my students make at least a school year’s growth in their reading skills. My students gain confidence and pride in their reading skills!

About the lesson

In my class, we use a multisensory approach to learning to read. This means we use movement, sense of touch, visual, auditory, and musical modalities. A typical lesson includes letter sound practice, blending words, vowel practice, and guided reading. We have fun learning to read!

Carmen has been one of my educational mentors over the course of my life. When I was young I spent time mentoring with her and learned so much. Carmen’s teaching style focuses on a lot on the social emotional aspects of learning and showcases a passion for her students. Her care for her students as individuals is what makes her such a successful educator. I’m so thankful for my time I got to spend with her in the classroom.
