About Mauricio
My name is Mauricio but my friends call me Mau. I have the perfect educational background and experience to help guide you through your Spanish learning process. I received my bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Zulia in Venezuela, and an associate’s degree in Education from Central Texas Community College. Additionally, I have worked as a Quality Engineer in Mexico, and as a Teacher’s Aide here in the States. Through these professional and academic experiences, I have developed the skills needed to help you reach your Spanish goals.

A language is the result of eons of social and cultural interactions. Learning Spanish feels overwhelming to you because it is like jumping into a new world, which is so vast and beautiful, but at the same time, totally different from yours. Don’t worry! I can be your guide in your new venture. My name is Mauricio, and I am a native Spanish speaker. I also speak English fluently, and I am currently learning Russian. I really know how it feels to learn a language and have personally experienced all the phases of the process. Let me be your guide in your Spanish journey so that: - You can take your first steps towards learning Spanish with confidence. - You will not only listen to Spanish speakers but also feel comfortable speaking Spanish. - You will not be afraid anymore of speaking Spanish because your Spanish will be so smooth and solid that everyone will be impressed. I have the perfect lessons for you, so that your Spanish can grow and flourish. These are some of the ways that I can help you during your lessons. For beginner students, my main goal is to provide an educational environment where you feel comfortable so your Spanish can flourish. I speak English fluently, so I can use English to explain confusing topics or vocabulary, if necessary. For those ready to move beyond the basics, I can provide insight into the Spanish variations found in many Latin American countries. I am originally from Venezuela but have traveled to and lived in several different Latin American countries. I am familiar with the many different Spanish accents and slang words used and can help you feel more comfortable conversing with people from a variety of backgrounds. I will also provide you with insightful feedback and positive reinforcements, so you can improve your Spanish quickly. For advanced students, I will focus on the finer aspects of grammar and advanced vocabulary. Reading literature is one of my favorite hobbies. Reading books by some of Latin America's greatest authors has given me an excellent understanding of complex grammar structures and an expansive vocabulary. Through our conversational Spanish lessons, I will lead you to develop a more profound understanding of Spanish so you can take your Spanish to the next level. Perfect! Mauricio is a very patient tutor and is very good at being able to understand where you are at and can give you realistic goals to work on. He is a great teacher and the lessons are specific and catered to what you want to learn. He also gives great resources to help you refresh what you already know.
Mauricio gives you the confidence you need to push outside of your comfort zone with learning/practicing a non-native language. It helps so much that he is a native speaker. The best part is that he can help with pronunciation and equally give you tips for formal/informal words and phrases.

Mauricio has been helping me learn and practice Spanish for almost 7 years. His way of speaking is easy to understand for a Spanish learner, and he is a patient and thorough teacher. He makes learning the language fun. I would highly recommend choosing him as your teacher!
I highly recommend working with Mauricio! He's very friendly and easy to talk to, which makes me feel comfortable, which is so important when learning another language. He also knows what it's like to learn another language, so he always offers helpful corrections to make my Spanish sound more natural.
Also, his English is great, so when I have a very specific word/phrase/idea I want to express in Spanish, I can explain it to him, and he can help me find a way to say it in Spanish.Mauricio has a gift for waiting. Many tutors can seem as though they are in a hurry for you to finish your thought or sentence and can tend to interrupt to "help you out", but Mauricio always allows me the time I need to think through what I'm trying to say. This is so helpful for me as a learner. If I do find myself in a situation where I do not know how to express an idea in Spanish, Mauricio's English ability comes in super handy. He is able to help me translate what I want to say into Spanish so that I am able to clearly communicate my ideas.
Last but not least, Mauricio is an excellent conversationalist. He does not leave you hanging, trying to come up with things to talk about. He is able to lead the conversation so that you as a student can focus on learning the language without worrying about those moments of awkward silence.
