About Joy

Hello prospective students! My name is Joy and I'm a college student entering my senior year. I am a sociology major at Baruch College in Manhattan through the Macaulay Honors Program. I am also a Provost scholar and have regularly been included on the Dean's list since Spring '21. That being said, I know how difficult it is to excel academically! I aim to help you achieve your academic and personal goals through fostering confidence in your studies and honing your interests.

I've always been a huge bookworm, which I attribute most of my academic success to. Some of my favorite writers are Philip K. Dick, Aldous Huxley, and Hunter S. Thompson. Alongside my studies, I also work at a restaurant in Brooklyn and do odd jobs here and there, so I understand the struggle of trying to maintain your grades while still holding down a part time job. But when I'm not in class or working, I enjoy spending time alone with my cat or seeing my family and friends!

About the lesson

I utilize a student-based approach that meets learners where they are and encourages them to stretch their capabilities out of their comfort zone.
Real-world application and relevance is crucial to me, so students will be encouraged to complete their work in a manner that will extend to situations they will experience post secondary education. I am a sociology major with a minor in New York City studies, so I will always push students to think holistically.

My lessons will utilize both classic texts and contemporary writers, as well as current events, in order to build a well-rounded understanding of the ideas we are tackling.
I teach students of all ages, but high schoolers, juniors and seniors in particular, would likely benefit most from my lessons.

Joy has excellent skills in literary analysis, grammar and editing and the ability to break down large, difficult concepts into bite size pieces that are easier to digest. The feedback I've received has improved my writing tremendously, and I've always gone to her for advice. She's great at making things concise and to the point, and a wonderful teacher.

I would reccomend her without hesitation; she is always reliable, and has helped my growth as a writer tremendously.
