My academic journey, starting with a Bachelor's in Computer Science from Loughborough University, laid the groundwork for my career. There, I immersed myself in various programming languages, harmonising the practical with the theoretical. My passion for AI led me to pursue a Master's in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Edinburgh, where I explored the depths of Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Reinforcement Learning, Game Theory, NLP, and Probabilistic Modelling. In my prompt engineering lessons, students learn step-by-step how to craft prompts that unlock ChatGPT's full potential. We cover core concepts like utilising ChatGPT's natural language capabilities, structuring multi-step reasoning chains, and guiding contextual responses. My interactive teaching style involves collaboratively building prompts hands-on during lessons. We experiment iteratively, tweaking prompts and observing how subtle changes influence ChatGPT's execution. Learners receive personalised feedback and prompts tailored to their use cases. By the end of the course, students grasp proven prompt programming strategies to achieve advanced results. These include: Priming ChatGPT with background context for more accurate responses Using examples to target precise language tones and styles Guiding logical, nuanced and creative reasoning with prompts Maintaining conversation flow and consistency across responses Handling errors gracefully by acknowledging ChatGPT's limitations The course culminates in learners designing prompts independently for their unique applications, whether academic essays, coding projects, or business cases. My goal is for students to feel empowered in creatively harnessing this technology on their own terms to boost productivity and unlock new possibilities.
