About Adam
Over the past year, I have had the privilege to work within the National Tutoring Programme and tutoring students privately. I have completed my own studies and am keen to aid others in their educational development. I am an avid reader and am fascinated by the use of language as a tool.
My own background is in journalism and human rights. I have written for a number of local media outlets around the north of England. I have also spent time working alongside UK and international NGOs and published research on the experiences of women in leadership in Asia and the pacific.

As a tutor, I specialise in English language and literature with a strong focus on written work and comprehension. I use my lessons to expose students to new pieces of literature and encourage them to be inquisitive about what they are reading. This keeps my lesson content varied and interesting for students. My passions for understanding language, exploring literature and writing come from my own background studying English through school and my lifelong love of reading. Fostered by further education, I have the skills to aid pupils through exam season by helping to develop revision skills, essay writing and exam technique.
Each of my lessons has a fairly similar trajectory although the content will be varied each week. I begin with an introduction task looking at a short unseen extract and for the first few minutes we will work through a series of questions related to the extract. Once the mental muscles are firing, we move onto a segment of teaching that will focus on the content specific to this lesson. I prefer to have an interactive lesson and will involve the students in each section either through a conversation about the topic or short quizzes. I use verbal and written examples, test papers where necessary and ensure that there is some level of exam technique looked at throughout. The aim is to maintain a comfortable, fun and engaging learning environment. When I have been a student, this has always been vital to my own success and I use this to help my pupils achieve their goals. Finally, I close my lessons with a task that the student must complete independently - we can look through their work there and then. This helps me to gauge their progress and allows the student to put their skills to the test.
