About Tanya

Hello! I'm an enthusiastic and dedicated tutor with over six years of experience in teaching Economics, Math, and English. I hold a degree in International Economics from the University of British Columbia, graduating with high distinction. Currently, I work in a hyper-growth tech company in Vancouver, which keeps me at the forefront of innovation and problem-solving. Teaching has always been a passion rather than just a profession for me. It started as a way to stay connected with academia and quickly grew into a vital part of my life. I have had the privilege of guiding students of all ages, watching them grow, succeed, and in two memorable cases, earn full-ride scholarships. This experience has not only been profoundly fulfilling but also continuously fuels my dedication to mentoring and education. In addition to tutoring, I serve as a career mentor to university students, helping them navigate their academic and professional journeys. My approach to teaching is heart-driven; I genuinely care about each student's experience and strive to make learning engaging and impactful. While this is not my primary source of income, it is a passionate pursuit that enriches my life immensely. I believe that a good teacher can ignite hope, inspire dreams, and instill a love for learning. If you're looking for someone who is not only committed to your academic success but also genuinely cares about your growth and well-being, let's connect and explore how we can achieve your goals together.

About the lesson

Teaching Methodology

My teaching methodology is rooted in understanding your unique needs and learning style to make learning English as enjoyable and effective as possible. I believe in a holistic approach that not only focuses on grammar and vocabulary but also incorporates real-world application, cultural nuances, and practical conversation skills. My lessons are structured to build confidence and fluency, using a mix of interactive methods such as role-playing, topical discussions, and multimedia resources.

Outline of a Typical Lesson

Each lesson is tailored to your progress and goals, but here’s a general outline of what to expect:

1. Warm-up (5-10 minutes): A brief activity or conversation to engage and set the tone for the session.

2. Review (10 minutes): Quick recap of the previous lesson to reinforce learning and address any lingering questions.

3. Introduction of New Material (15-20 minutes): Depending on your level and objectives, this could include new vocabulary, grammar points, or usage concepts.

4. Interactive Practice (20 minutes): Apply what you've learned in practical, real-life scenarios—this could involve dialogues, problem-solving tasks, or creative writing.

5. Feedback and Reflection (5-10 minutes): Constructive feedback on your progress, discussing what went well and what could be improved.

6. Homework/Next Steps (5 minutes): Overview of practice exercises to do before our next meeting to consolidate your learning.

What Sets My Tutoring Apart

As someone who has both learned and taught languages, I understand the challenges that come with learning English as a second language. My background in economics provides me with unique insights into the professional and academic applications of English, which is particularly beneficial for students interested in business, finance, or academic writing. My relaxed approach ensures that you learn at your own pace, in a stress-free environment that encourages curiosity and reduces the fear of making mistakes.

Whether you're starting from scratch, looking to improve your conversational skills, or needing to polish your professional English, I adapt each lesson to meet you where you are. I'm committed to making each session engaging and rewarding, ensuring that you not only meet but exceed your language goals.

Tanya is a very genuine individual and places are high value on delivering true impact. Teaching for Tanya has always been a passion, not a job and frequently used to volunteer to teach local students in her hometown in Indonesia. That is how I met Tanya has she used to tutor my daughter.

Tanya identified learning strengths in her and was able to take her from a 60% grade Point average to over 90%. She ended up graduating top of her class, and that really helped our family as my daughter was able to get a scholarship to go to university. Tanya did all of this free of charge has been like an elder sister to my daughter.

Tanya used to teach my daughter who is in the second grade. She was lovely, polite and often brought my daughter little treats from the Lebanese place she used to work at. My daughter loved her as a tutor and significantly improved her grades but unfortunately due to covid we had to continue lessons online. Despite the transition, Tanya made sure that classes were still as effective.
