  • Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

The Instrument in itself is very fun and catchy to learn, different types of new riffs, playstyles, variations of chords and specially spanish guitarists; they play the instrument completely and always create new playstyles like the 'Arles Romance'. Curiosity to learn is definitely what keeps me up and updated.
As to how I develop interest for the students, it is divided into two types.
First, children under the age of 14 years, as it is a small age group, grabbing the attention of the student can be tough if a tutor just teaches theory or trys to teach tough songs. The way I teach is by creating fun games to learn, keeping small challenges and rewarding them with chocolates or toffies after completion even if they fail to complete as a reward of progress. To make them understand theory, I create acronyms and initialisms (like Elephants And Donkeys Grow Big Ears to learn the string names EADGBE). And also always making them feel comfortable and asking if the class is going at a good pace to check if the student understands everything that is being taught and progressing while understanding the potential of the student.
For Children above the age of 14, I take a similar approach by making the challenges a little more difficult and understanding what kind of an approach I am supposed to take (similar to students under 14 years of age). Since in my experience, students above the age of 14 (including adults) seem to grasp everything very quickly, I teach them different playstyles after knowing what they love. For example, if a student loves a band like Polyphia, I try to make them strengthen the coordination between both of their hands and teach them the fingerpicking style so that they learn the song and increase the drive of learning more.
Whatever the age the student might be and how much experience they have; they will always have something more to learn and I would definitely want to be the person to teach them that.
  • What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

The motivation behind me starting to teach is simply the curiosity and the love for teaching. Since I was a little kid I always looked up to the adults teaching and pampering little kids and creating a beautiful environment for the students and as I grew up I noticed the change in the way they taught and I always wondered how it would be to be on the other side. Now that I have been teaching for around a year, I really love the smiles on the students' faces after learning their favourite instrument and ask me to teach new tricks in individual songs. And the Rock Band 'Polyphia' increased my drive to learn their songs which are one of a kind, especially Tim Henson, the lead guitarist.
As for why, particularly guitar, I have been playing since I was 8 years old, now I am 19 which is roughly 11 years of experience with ons and offs of playing, i got serious about enhancing and mastering the instrument when I went for my first ever competition and really messed it up. No proper coordination, missing a few notes and getting more nervous as the judges were present. After that experience I have gotten way better at playing and mastering my instrument and I had a thought of 'why should I keep this knowledge to myself, there are a lot of people in the world wanting to learn or get better at guitar'. And since then I signed up on Superprof to work as a tutor and share what I know. So far the students I have taught and their parents really seem to love my approach by giving me feedback.
  • How does your work help society?

Students often learn an instrument for the sake of the hype or finding it cool/attractive, but what I see is that it really helps in the mentioned things below:
i - It improves concentration and focus of the student
ii - it develops discipline and patience
iii - it boosts hand and eye coordination and motor skills
iv - it increases confidence and self esteem
v - it also encourages creativity
vi - improves communication and problem solving skills.
There are many more things learning an instrument, particularly guitar helps in. All that I have mentioned is by my own experience of learning throughout the 11 years.

As for the help in Society,
    - Learning Guitar provides students with extracurricular activities.
    - It promotes lifelong appreciation to the Art.
    - It reduces social isolation by creating opportunities for collaboration.
    - They also inspire future musicians, educators and community leaders.
And many more things which help in the contribution to the society.
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

If I had to go with a role model for learning, I would go for Tim Henson, the lead guitarist for Polyphia as they completely changed the dynamics of the instrument itself.
Fast picking, natural harmonics, hybrid picking, and what not. He created a new level for the guitarists and stepped up the instrument completely as learning any of the polyphia songs requires a huge amount of patience and dedication.
I do not have a role model for a teacher as anywhere I learned any instrument from, I always noticed that the teachers had half knowledge and I feel that they never got the chance or the drive to learn more about guitar and master it. That is why I am mastering and trying to understand it in every perspective possible and share what I have learned to my students so they never have a moment of question when a situation arises when someone is asking them about the a particular playstyle in guitar and they question whether they have been taught about it or not. Especially so that the students get everything from one teacher unlike where I had to switch in case the teacher did not meet my requirements.
  • Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

I am pursuing my career in Law and currently a student in The University of Mumbai, other than playing and teaching guitar I read, Learn new things, workout, try to create new melodies, produce music, try to understand the creation or the BTS of every song I love, I am also a Cinematographer and a professional gamer. I am also interested in learning more instruments like Violin and Drums and will soon start after finding a proper schedule for it. I would definitely prefer a tutor from Superprof.
  • Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

An anecdote which is pretty hectic but at the same time very fun to remember is that since I started teaching, there has been a student living in Worli in Mumbai and I used to travel every weekend from Thane to Worli which took almost 2.5 to 3 hours one way, just to teach 1 hour. It was not because of money i travelled that far by public transport, it was because of the view i saw every single time, the people travelling long distances, the development of the city and most importantly the excitement of the student to learn more about the Guitar.
