About Sean
I am a third-year Ph.D. student in pure mathematics and I am passionate about math education. I have a background in chemical engineering and applied math as well. I have worked in the pharmaceutical, machine learning, and polymer industries in the past. My unique pedagogy has evolved over the years from a combination of lecturing and tutoring. I have also taught skiing and swimming to hundreds of students.

I believe the best way to gain and keep knowledge is to have ownership over learning. I begin my first session with a candid diagnostic to assess a student's understanding and identify areas for growth. With these areas in mind, I employ a Socratic method of inquiry where the student naturally discovers key ideas within the subject. Practicing the new skills helps the knowledge become concrete and I then leave the student some exercises to try after the lesson. I ask the student to provide me with their solutions prior to the next lesson and I provide a quick recap of the previous lesson.
I tailor my lessons for all backgrounds, ages, and levels. I have taught children as young as five to adults well into their 50s.
I am decisive with identifying the key areas my student and I need to work on to have the largest growth possible.

Perfect! My son’s first session with Sean went great. He quickly identified areas for improvement and my son walked away with new tricks, budding confidence with math, and practice work to do between sessions to support his journey. I’m very happy with what was accomplished in one lesson and look forward to the results that will surely come as my son continues to work with Sean.
