About Cmg
My name is Christopher Gunning. My journey in the field of education started as an enlisted member of the United States Coast Guard. After years of service on the water I ended my career as a Maritime Law Enforcement Instructor through which I learned of my love for teaching. Much of my time as an instructor in the Coast Guard was focused on teaching about the U.S. Constitution and the rights of American citizens.
After my service in the Coast Guard I returned to College and earned my Bachelors degree in History and my Masters degree in Adolescent education with a focus on Social Studies. I have seven years experience as a GED instructor preparing students for any and all of the Social Studies content that are covered in all years of High School
I rely on all of my experiences to aid in my teaching methods including classroom knowledge and real world situations. My main goal is to assist you in your success and make the experience as enriching, interesting, and yes... fun as possible.

I believe in the constructivist learning model, where students learn from one another and varied resources to create their own understanding. Through providing diverse texts, online media content and opportunities for student choice in learning activities, I strive to create a student-centered learning environment and make history come alive in the classroom by making real, relevant connections to students’ lives and the world around them. Through these methods I have a proven track record of getting even the most reluctant students to strive and even gain a greater appreciation and interest in the Social Studies
