About Jacob
I recently graduated from Western Washington University with a degree in mathematics. At Western I tutored at the University tutoring center, where I eventually became a "lead math tutor," in charge of training and assisting new recruits. I tutored for a total of 4 years at Western.

I have spent most of my time tutoring at the University level. I have tutored everything up through Calculus.
My tutoring style puts a lot of emphasis on student involvement in problem solving. I will be there to guide them through problems, and to help with general problem solving techniques, or if they get stuck. I will not be providing answers to homework assignments without an explanation of the problem solving process.
I also teach techniques for building confidence and aptitude for mathematics, such as quick tricks and simple steps that will make problems less complicated.
If I see that a student is lacking some basic principals, I will pause what we are currently working on to make sure they are caught up to speed with the basics first. Getting hung up on basic algebra is a problem all too common, even for successful mathematics students.
