About Affan
Hi! I'm Affan. I'm an astrophysics PhD researcher at McGill University. However, I wasn't always very comfortable with math and science; as a student, I found it quite challenging in fact throughout my early high school days.
Because of this experience, I know the difference that a patient, skilled mentor can make. This is exactly why I've spent the last 5 years tutoring professionally, as I know what it feels like to be stuck and I also know exactly what it takes to get unstuck!
Today, I am passionate about science and math, and I want to share this enthusiasm to build the next generation of innovators. My overall goal is to be an understanding and approachable mentor: exactly what I needed when I was in your shoes.

-Teaching methodology: I'm a big proponent of interactive learning. I believe that students learn best by doing. Therefore, my lessons are structured to maximize student involvement.
-Typical lesson plan: I start my lessons by gauging what my students know about the topic. I then go to introduce the concept, using the aid of visualizations and examples to illustrate the concepts. Finally, I work on problems with the students themselves, nudging students in the right direction to develop problem-solving skills in them.
-I bring with me a breadth of experience in teaching all sorts of students across a wide variety of curricula. Because I apply high-level math and physics in my astrophysics research daily, I can connect abstract textbook concepts to real-world applications. For university students, I can also provide specialized help with lab data analysis and formatting in LaTeX.
-My lessons are for students from Grade 8 to the final year of an undergraduate degree (including all school boards, IB, AP, and university courses). I also warmly welcome students with dyslexia or other learning disabilities who need a more tailored approach.
