About Bethlehem

I was born in Ethiopia and grew up in Italy, with Amharic as my native language used every day at home. I also teach Amharic and Italian on other platforms (Preply), working with students at different levels and from different backgrounds — from the Ethiopian diaspora reconnecting with their heritage, to those getting ready for an exam, a trip, or a move. Alongside teaching, I bring professional experience from healthcare and social support, which shaped my ability to listen, adjust to each person's needs, and remain patient. No two students are alike, and I approach them accordingly: no one-size-fits-all lessons, just a path we build together.

About the lesson

My approach begins with conversation rather than abstract grammar rules: you're using the language starting from lesson one. A typical session opens with a quick review, continues with vocabulary and phrases connected to your specific goal (family, travel, work, exam), and wraps up with guided conversation to reinforce what you've covered. I also cover the Ge'ez script whenever reading and writing come into play. What makes me different is having grown up in Italy as a native Amharic speaker: I understand firsthand the challenges faced by learners coming from Italian or English. These lessons work well for complete beginners, people with Ethiopian heritage reconnecting with the language, or anyone getting ready for a proficiency exam, a trip, or a move to Ethiopia or Italy.
