About Jessica

Hey y’all, I’m Jessica! I’m a certified elementary teacher in North Carolina with a Master’s in Reading Education, and I’m passionate about helping kids become confident, capable readers. I’m currently in my third year of teaching and have spent the last two years working specifically in second grade, where I focus heavily on small-group instruction and individualized support.

I believe that every child can learn to read with the right approach, encouragement, and consistency. My teaching style is patient, structured, and supportive. I use research-based literacy strategies and explicit instruction to help students build strong foundations in phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

I’m also a mom of four, so I truly understand how busy family life can be and how important it is to find a tutor you can trust with your child’s learning. I pride myself on creating a positive, welcoming environment where students feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow.

About the lesson

I’m a certified elementary teacher with a Master’s in Reading Education, and I use a research-based, structured literacy approach tailored to each child’s needs. My focus is on building strong reading skills and confidence through clear instruction, guided practice, and supportive feedback. I target phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension using engaging, multisensory techniques.

**What a Typical Lesson Looks Like**

Each session begins with a quick review, followed by direct instruction on a specific skill. Students practice through guided and independent activities using decodable or leveled texts. We end with a short recap and simple goals for the next lesson. Lessons are adjusted based on progress and learning style.

**What Sets Me Apart**

I combine real classroom experience with specialized training in reading education. I know how to identify skill gaps and provide targeted instruction that leads to real growth. I create a positive, encouraging environment and keep parents informed with regular progress updates and at-home strategies.

**Who My Lessons Are For**

My tutoring is for students in kindergarten through fifth grade who are struggling readers, below grade level, or need extra support or confidence-building in literacy. I also work with students who want to strengthen their overall reading and writing skills.
