About Sophie

Hi, I am Sophie. I am a drama coach, monologue tutor, and theatre-maker with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre from New York University Tisch School of the Arts, where I graduated with Honors and a GPA of 3.79. I have trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, studied performance in Shanghai, and supported the management of large-scale Broadway productions through NYU's Drama Mentorship Program. I am currently completing my PGCE teaching qualification.

I have been teaching drama professionally at Stagecoach UK, leading classes of up to 25 students and directing full productions from scratch. Whether I am working with a five-year-old discovering performance for the first time or a teenager preparing a conservatoire audition, I bring the same level of care, preparation, and professionalism to every session.

My teaching is grounded in real industry training. The techniques I share with students are the same ones I learned at RADA and NYU: practical tools for building a character, freeing the voice, and delivering a performance with genuine confidence and intention. I believe that every student has something worth saying on stage. My job is to help them find the clearest, most powerful way to say it.

I also offer beginner English sessions for young learners, using storytelling, movement, and gentle spoken play to make language learning feel natural and enjoyable. I hold professional working proficiency in Spanish, which can support sessions with students who are newer to English.

My teaching method

I teach drama and monologue work the same way I was trained: through doing, not just discussing. Every lesson is active and physical. We work on breath, body, and intention before we touch the text, because a monologue performed from the neck up is a monologue that does not land.

My approach draws on techniques from RADA, NYU Tisch, and my time studying performance across London, New York, and Shanghai. I combine Stanislavski-influenced character work with practical tools for audition preparation, vocal clarity, and emotional authenticity. I adapt everything to the individual student. A 7-year-old working on a school play and a 17-year-old preparing a conservatoire audition need very different things from me, and I enjoy meeting both where they are.

A typical lesson

01
Warm-up (10 min). Breath work, physical shake-out, and a vocal exercise tailored to the student's current focus. For younger students this might be a game; for older students a tongue-twister sequence or resonance work.

02
Text work (20 min). We read aloud, ask questions about the character, and identify what the character wants in this moment. I introduce a specific technique or concept (for example, active verbs, status, or subtext) and apply it directly to the piece.

03
Performance and feedback (15 min). The student performs. I give targeted, specific feedback and we run it again with one adjustment to try. I always end on a success so the student leaves with something that works.

04
Reflection and homework (5 min). We name what changed in the session and I set a small, concrete task for the week, whether that is memorising lines, journalling as the character, or practising a particular phrase.

What sets me apart

I hold a BFA in Theatre from NYU Tisch (GPA 3.79, Honors) and have trained at RADA in London. I have taught drama professionally at Stagecoach UK, managing groups of up to 25 students and directing full productions. I have also supported a General Manager on large-scale Broadway productions, so I understand both the classroom and the industry.

What I bring that many coaches do not is genuine cross-cultural and multilingual experience. Having studied and performed across three continents, I am comfortable working with students from many different backgrounds, and I hold professional working proficiency in Spanish. I also have a particular instinct for nervous students. I have performed enough to know what performance anxiety actually feels like, and I know how to make the room feel safe enough for a student to take a real risk.

Who these lessons are for

I work with students of all ages and all experience levels, from first-timers to conservatoire applicants. My lessons are suited to:

Young beginners (ages 5 to 11) who want to build confidence, try performing for the first time, or prepare for a school production. Lessons are playful and game-led.

Teens and secondary students preparing GCSE or A-Level drama performances, working on set texts, or developing their own devised pieces.

Audition candidates applying to drama schools, universities, or youth theatre programmes who need polished, specific monologue preparation.

Adults returning to drama, exploring it for the first time, or wanting to build public speaking and communication skills through performance.

Beginner English for young learners

I also offer beginner English sessions for elementary-age students (typically ages 5 to 10) who are new to the language or building early literacy. These lessons use drama, storytelling, and spoken play to make English feel natural and enjoyable rather than like a subject to study. Drawing on my experience in the classroom and my work with multilingual students, I create low-pressure environments where children learn by doing: acting out stories, learning vocabulary through movement, and building confidence through simple performance. Sessions can be delivered in English only or with light support in Spanish where helpful.
