About Birgit
Welcome to my little corner of the internet. My name is Birgit, I grew up bilingual German and English between Cologne, Germany and Liverpool, UK. After spending 2 years in London for my art career I finally left Europe behind and moved to San Francisco, where together with my husband I have a small design-based business that serves predominantly interior design clients and independent designers. I also create photography and video content for various projects (my own and other people's.) I have a little spare time and would like to fill it with 1-5 language lessons with you each week. The best way to improve is regular language contact and an accountability partner. Lessons can be personalised and informal OR we can work with a coursebook that will be most helpful if you want a clear learning map that you can follow at a pace that most suits you. (I recommend 3 lessons a week to see progress, 5 if you REALLY want to make a leap forward. But even just 1 lesson every now and then will give you some opportunity to practise.) I prefer students who would like to commit to regular lessons but if you really just want to have a one-off language practice meeting then that is of course ok. I love language and storytelling, dream of one day owning an old house somewhere in the world so that my 1000 books can have a permanent home, while I (in my dreams) travel the world and learn languages and enjoy learning about culture and history of many places. (dreams) I initially started German language tutoring in 1994 as a foreign language assistant teacher at a UK high school. Since then I have returned to both English and German language tutoring depending on my location and depending on what was happening in life. At the moment I offer German lessons in person in San Francisco & online wherever you are in the world, as well as English language coaching for career and entrepreneurship.

I am a bilingual German & English tutor with part-time language tutoring experience since 1994. My work experience includes - working as a language assistant teacher at high schools - covering maternity leave for an English language instructor in Italy - teaching German to young professionals in Cambodia - English language career coaching for job seekers and entrepreneurs - Intensive German language lesson packages for mid- to senior tech professionals in San Francisco, California. Which platform I use for our video calls: I mainly use Skype *(please make sure to download it and test it before our meeting.) Backup for our lessons: Whatsapp Zoom is possible with advance notice. (I rarely use it.)
