About Birgit
Welcome to my little corner of the internet. My name is Birgit, I grew up bilingual German and English between Cologne, Germany and Liverpool, UK. After spending 2 years in London for my art career I finally left Europe behind and moved to San Francisco, where together with my husband I have a small design-based business that serves predominantly interior design clients and independent designers. I also create photography and video content for various projects (my own and other people's.) I have a little spare time and would like to fill it with 1-5 language lessons with you each week. The best way to improve is regular language contact and an accountability partner. Lessons can be personalised and informal OR we can work with a coursebook that will be most helpful if you want a clear learning map that you can follow at a pace that most suits you. (I recommend 3 lessons a week to see progress, 5 if you REALLY want to make a leap forward. But even just 1 lesson every now and then will give you some opportunity to practise.) I prefer students who would like to commit to regular lessons but if you really just want to have a one-off language practice meeting then that is of course ok. I love language and storytelling, dream of one day owning an old house somewhere in the world so that my 1000 books can have a permanent home, while I (in my dreams) travel the world and learn languages and enjoy learning about culture and history of many places. (dreams) I initially started German language tutoring in 1994 as a foreign language assistant teacher at a UK high school. Since then I have returned to both English and German language tutoring depending on my location and depending on what was happening in life. At the moment I offer German lessons in person in San Francisco & online wherever you are in the world, as well as English language coaching for career and entrepreneurship.

Birgit is a patient, caring and very informative German teacher. Her overall knowledge of different subjects of focus when learning German (in my case) is asounding. She is bilingual, speaking both German and English with excellent command over both languages. She is the best and most articulate language teacher I have come across. Thanks Birgit!
I did a short German course with Birgit at her house. We were a small group of mixed nationalities and abilities. Birgit was fantastic at keeping everyone's learning experience moving along to suit them whilst maintaining the group dynamic. Her lessons were always perfectly prepared beforehand and it was a real pleasure to take lessons from her in her home. Recommended!
Birgit has been a great language tutor for me and met my needs well. She is a very friendly and intuitive lady who knew exactly how much further to push my learning each time we spoke. Birgit also always answered any questions I had without hesitation and I found her to be a well rounded, wonderful teacher. I would most certainly recommend her and look forward to more learning from her in the future.
