About Sophia
Hi!
I'm a friendly and outgoing second year student working towards an MChem qualification (masters in chemistry) at the University of Oxford, currently living in London and working remotely. I've been tutoring all 3 sciences for more than five years now; I've worked with a range of students aged 5-18 through agencies and privately to help them achieve their potential. I work with students across all exam boards and qualification styles. I specialise in support for GCSE/ UK Alevel science (all 3! :) since I studied them myself ) however I have in the past taken on and am also available to help with:
- KS2/3 booster classes for SAT prep
- Mature students returning to study
- Oxbridge interview prep (NatSci/BioChem/Chemistry only)
I have a passion for education and strongly believe in the power of consistency and hard work to transform your learning outcomes. My first tutoring gig was delivering KS3 science classes to underperforming kids over the course of one summer. They did fantastically, and I've seen that change reproduced over and over again in the last 5 years. The secret is a tutor who understands examinations, having been through a ton herself and uses scientifically proven study techniques. Having worked with well over 100 students in both short term and long term placements, I understand there's no one size fits all study plan. My experience has taught me that student led approach to the initial plan results in better engagement, and I always ask for feedback as well as results tracking to inform adjustments to what we should be learning together. In general classes, there's slightly less flexibility, but as a minimum all students will always receive from me:
-scientifically proven study techniques (spaced learning, active recall techinques etc) to maximise learning and information retention
- personalised content coverage plans tailored to your schools time frame
- different worksheets and practise exams depending on your exam board
- access to my own notes for A level Biology and Chemistry
Things that are important to me: respect for their time, learning pace, pronouns, being a safe place to ask for help. My classrooms are a bullying, judgement, rush free zone !
