About Ben
Having taught Latin, Classical Greek, Classical Civilisation, and Ancient History for over twenty years now, and having honed my art in various different kinds of schools across the UK (single sex boys/girls and coeducational establishments in both day and boarding settings), I am well-placed to understand the varying needs of my pupils. My ambition for all my students is that they walk away from each lesson with greater knowledge, understanding, and enjoyment of both the ancient world and their academic studies more widely.
At a previous school I ran a programme for those applying to top universities and spent seven years at one of the most academic schools in the UK, so have a significant amount of experience in preparing students for university applications, whether it be for Oxbridge or anywhere else.

I am a very experienced classroom teacher who is passionate about Classics. I graduated from studying Classics (Literae Humaniores) at Oxford University in 2004 and have taught in some of the best schools in the UK and have also spent twelve years as Head of Classics in two different schools.
I have always felt that my subjects are ones that anyone can access given the right assistance and encouragement. My teaching style is one that involves high expectations yet crystal clear explanation and the use of engaging resources. I aim in every lesson to instill the same kind of excitement I feel about the classical world in all my charges.
Lessons are usually between 30 and 45 minutes and I am available to any age of student (I have taught ages 10 upwards (to university level) in my time as a teacher).
