About Maren
I have spent fourteen years nurturing the scientific curiosity of more than 410 biology students across multiple educational levels and countries. My academic foundation includes a master's degree in molecular biology and extensive field research experience in marine ecology and conservation genetics. I have taught in international schools rural community programmes and online platforms which has shaped my ability to adapt complex biological concepts to any audience. My students have pursued careers in medicine veterinary science biotechnology and environmental policy. I am especially proud of the students who entered my classroom intimidated by the volume of biological terminology and left with the ability to see patterns and connections across scales from molecules to ecosystems. I maintain active memberships in several biological societies and regularly attend conferences to keep my knowledge current. In my free time I lead nature walks for local schools and contribute to citizen science projects. I view biology education as a form of empowerment because understanding life at every level enables students to make informed decisions about health environment and ethics.

Biology is the study of living systems and my teaching approach mirrors the interconnectedness of nature itself. I structure lessons around five core themes rather than isolated facts: evolution as the unifying theory energy and matter flow information storage and transfer systems interactions and structure-function relationships. For genetics I use pedigree analysis DNA extraction simulations and bioinformatics tools to make molecular concepts tangible. Ecology lessons incorporate real field data climate models and case studies of conservation success and failure. Human physiology is taught through comparative anatomy virtual dissections and connections to health and disease. I emphasise scientific literacy teaching students to evaluate primary research papers understand experimental design and distinguish correlation from causation. Visual learning is central to my method and I employ detailed diagrams flowcharts and concept maps that students build collaboratively during sessions. For exam preparation I teach precise terminology careful reading of command words and the art of constructing extended written responses that demonstrate deep understanding. My sessions encourage questioning scepticism and the development of biological intuition.
