About Marina
Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read my profile. My name is Marina and I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering after making a switch from the Nursing field. I have been tutoring for 5 years, and I find that I can strongly relate to most students in one way or another because I am a student myself. I recognize that many students come to me with lots of anxiety towards learning math, and one of the first things we work on together is to eliminate that anxiety. Once that has been lifted, I find that many students begin to truly excel. I am trained in the Common Core standards and methods, as well as the traditional methods.

My teaching methodology is centered around mastery. It is often not enough for a student to be able to solve a problem correctly once, twice, or even three times. I am committed to your student being able to trust in themselves that they can solve any problem given to them, no matter the formatting or wording. I accomplish this through role reversal (having the student teach me and/or other students), repetition (usually involves games and/or homework), and asking the same question, but in a way they have never seen before. It is my goal to develop their problem solving process.

Marina has been a breath of fresh air with her tutoring style. She is prepping my son for secondary school standardized testing which requires her to cover alot of Algebra, Reading comprehenson, Vocabulary and Writing material. My son is learning and has been engaged at every session. The subjects, testing skills and shortcuts she covers have also reinforced his school study skills. Her feedback to him on improvement areas has also been positive and encouraging. I highly recommend her for tutoring!
Marina tutors my 13 year old 8th grader. She established a trusting realtionship with her and helped prepare her for upcoming standardized tests. She is patient, professional, reliable and trustworthy. She goes above and beyond. We once sent her a text asking for help with a math problem my daughter was stuck on. She responded with a video of her explaining, step-by-step, how to complete the problem. I highly recommend her.
