About Dr Mariana

I hold a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Cambridge and have supervised PhD candidates through to completion. I have experience serving on academic examination and interview panels.

I focus on helping researchers think critically about their data, develop coherent arguments, and communicate their work effectively.

Note: This is an independent academic support service and is not affiliated with my current employer.

About the lesson

About this service

Are you an early career scientist struggling to turn your data and ideas into a clear, defensible argument?

Strong research is defined by how rigorously you construct, test, and communicate an argument. Many researchers reach a point where progress slows—not due to lack of ability, but because the structure, logic, or positioning of the work needs refinement.

I provide independent academic support to help you sharpen your thinking, strengthen your argument, and communicate your work with clarity and precision.

This service is suitable for researchers working on:

Oral presentations and conference talks
Interpretation and structuring of research findings into a cohesive argument

Services

Argument Development
Clarifying your central claim, improving logical structure, and ensuring each section contributes to a coherent argument.

Critical Analysis
Strengthening how you evaluate evidence, engage with literature, and address limitations and alternative interpretations.

Research Presentations
Structuring talks for clarity and impact, refining narrative flow, and improving delivery for academic or general public audiences.

Argument Feedback
Focus on structuring your data into a clear argument that supports your key claim.

Interview Preparation
Support in anticipating questions, articulating reasoning, and presenting your work clearly and confidently.

How sessions work:

I offer a free 30-minute introductory session to understand your objectives and how I can help you.

A typical one-hour session includes:

5-15-minute presentation of your work (oral or slides)
15–30 minutes of structured questions and discussion
Focused feedback on clarity, logic, and argument structure

Sessions are conducted online and are suitable for researchers based in the UK and internationally.

Note: This is an independent academic support service and is not affiliated with my employer. For this reason I do not provide paid tutoring or assessment-related support to current members of the University of Southampton., UK
