About Jeff
I am a graduate of Brock University (St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada). I received my Honor Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Film Studies and Philosophy. I have also completed two Master's Degrees from Brock University, the first in Philosophy (specializing in Comparative Philosophy), and the second in Studies in Comparative Literature and the Arts (specializing in Interdisciplinarity). Currently, I am in the process of finishing my Ph.D. at York University (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) in the Social and Political Thought program (this is a renowned interdisciplinary program that includes elements of Philosophy, English Literature, History, Social Science, Political Science, and Sociology). For the past eight years I have been a Teaching Assistant at Brock University (2 years) and York University (6 years). I have taught first-year an Introduction to Philosophy course (Introduction to Philosophy: Philosophical Classics and Contemporary Life) and at York University I taught a first-year introductory Social Science course (Self, Culture, and Society), both courses focused on critical reading, writing, and thinking skills. While my primary area of specialization is Philosophy, I am also passionate about teaching English (Literature and Language), History, Political Science, Social Science, and Sociology. Aside from my academic interests, which are too numerous to mention here, I am an avid reader (of both fiction and non-fiction, love watching movies, cooking, traveling, American football fan (Go Browns!), and speed cubing.

There is simply no one-size-fits-all approach to teaching, so I strive to understand the unique needs of each individual student and then tailor my lessons to your specific educational needs. I find a collaborative approach, in which students feel confident and comfortable sharing their own ideas is most conducive to long-term learning. As a philosopher, I utilize a truly dialectic approach to engage students and empower them to become as important a part of their own learning experience as any teacher.
