my teaching approach is informed by constructivist learning theory, which emphasises that learners construct knowledge through meaningful engagement with content. I demonstrate this by using real research scenarios and routine activities/events to contextualise statistical concepts, allowing students to connect abstract ideas with real-world applications in healthcare and research. For instance, I draw on familiar clinical practices by explaining that nurses and midwives routinely collect patient data such as vital signs (e.g. blood pressure, heart rate, temperature). I then illustrate how these measurements, when aggregated and analysed, form the basis of statistical evidence used to identify patterns, assess patient risk, and inform clinical decision-making. This helps students recognise that statistics are not abstract concepts, but an extension of practices they already understand in their professional
