About Syan
I’m Syan, and I’m a post GCSE student who studied Spanish, Mandarin and Business Studies as my options. I am a predicted and currently Grade 9 student in Mandarin Chinese, often working at a level higher than expected at GCSE level. I also study English Literature and Language, Maths (Higher), Further Maths, Triple (aka Separate) Science and Religious studies.

I offer Mandarin Chinese tuition up to GCSE / HSK 3 level, designed to be clear, enjoyable, and tailored to each student’s needs. Whether you're starting from scratch or preparing for exams, my lessons are structured yet flexible. I closely follow the AQA GCSE syllabus, focusing on the key vocabulary, grammar, and skills needed for success. Lessons include listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with a strong focus on building confidence and fluency over time. To keep learning fun and effective, I use a mix of visuals, games, flashcards, practice papers, and cultural content like Chinese festivals, idioms, and social customs. As a passionate linguist and student myself, I understand what it’s like to learn a new language. I teach with patience, humour, and a fresh perspective that makes Mandarin accessible and less intimidating. I aim to help learners not only pass exams, but genuinely enjoy the language and culture along the way. I also offer tailored support for different learning goals. Whether a student prefers casual conversational Mandarin, wants help with school homework, or is aiming for top GCSE grades, I adapt my materials and pace accordingly. Progress is regularly reviewed, and I provide useful tips for memorising characters, improving pronunciation, and tackling tricky grammar points. I’m always open to questions and encourage a relaxed, respectful learning environment where mistakes are part of the journey. My goal is to inspire confidence, independence, and genuine interest in the language - far beyond just textbook learning. Chinese is a beautiful language, I want to spread this joy!
