About Anne
I have been teaching in the Primary and Early Years since 2010. I have had a wide and varied teaching career both in Northern Ireland and abroad. I have taught all Primary classes and all Early Years classes. I have worked as Literacy Co-ordinator and SENCo. I have taught in Primary SEN Unit classes. I have taught learners who have English as a second language (EAL). I am confident in teaching all primary subjects and have had much training in Phonics because I worked abroad with EAL learners. I am also as confident in my ability to teach maths and other subjects, but have not completed as much mandatory training in these subjects.

Depending on the age of the child and the nature of the class- eg: 11+ preparation, I believe children benefit from active learning and a kinaesthetic approach. This is not as important for exam preparation, but for the purposes of understanding, I believe an active approach is better for children. I taught through different curricula when I went abroad, namely The Reggio Emilia Approach, British EYFS curriculum and The International Baccalaureate. I learned the importance of critical thinking and how to foster problem solving among other things. I don't believe disseminating facts leads to an independent, critical thinking mind.
