I believe there are no shortcuts to success so one has to have the entire concept provided in the course books as well as extra information to understand the context better. So, firstly I prefer explaining the whole chapter/concept with real life examples and then encourage students to come up with their doubts and make it interactive rather than just lecture format. I also prefer taking tests from time to time to ensure that the student is all prepared with the chapter.
