About Mia
I am a rising Junior and Dean’s List student at SUNY New Paltz, who double majors in Journalism and Communications. I am also a published poet and Journalist, and a lifetime writer. I also have four years of experience in being a tutor, counselor, and mentor. This includes private tutoring lessons which I offered as part of being in the National Honors Society in highschool, a camp counselor, being a tutor for the New Paltz Youth Center, as well as my involvement with media and writing at my own college.
I have had experience with children and teens of all personality types, skill level, and interest. I believe in meeting each student where they are, and working with them to bring them where they need to be.

I offer tutoring sessions for students k-12 who are looking to improve performance in any English-related class. Reading and writing skills are crucial for professional and social development, but in the age of screens, youth today are falling further behind in this area. I believe this is due to the disconnect many people have with literature; they view it as unimportant or irrelevant, and boring. This has been my experience doing private tutoring as part of the National Honors Society in high school, as well as volunteering with the New Paltz Youth Program, being a Journalism and Communications major, as well as being on the executive board of the New Paltz Poetry Club.
My lessons are tailored to each individual student’s need. Students can bring their own material which they are struggling with, or if they are looking to practice over the Summer in a low-stakes environment, I also have a wide range of books, exercises, and writing prompts which can be used to refine their skills.
One area which I am particularly focused in is rhetoric, essay writing, and academic writing. Students will learn how to write a compelling thesis, how to do research and cite that research, as well as how to defend their thesis.
