About Denise

Hello! I’m Denise, a qualified UK science teacher with a genuine passion for biology, chemistry and helping students achieve their academic ambitions.

I hold a First Class Honours degree in Biochemistry, a PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), and I have been providing private tuition since 2015. I am also currently studying for an MSc in Bioinformatics at the University of Birmingham, allowing me to remain actively engaged with scientific research and developments in modern biology.

For me, teaching is about much more than preparing students to pass examinations. It is about inspiring curiosity, developing independent thinking and helping students discover what they are truly capable of achieving.

I understand that science can sometimes feel overwhelming, particularly at A-Level, where complex concepts and demanding examination requirements can challenge even the most capable students. My role is to make those challenges manageable, breaking difficult topics into clear, understandable explanations while building confidence and encouraging genuine understanding.

Having worked with students from different educational backgrounds, I recognise that no two learners are alike. I believe patience, encouragement, professionalism and mutual respect are essential to creating a positive learning environment.

I particularly enjoy working with international students and welcome the opportunity to support learners from different countries, cultures and educational systems.

Whether you are aiming for the highest examination grades, struggling with a particular topic, preparing for university or simply looking to strengthen your scientific knowledge, I will approach your education with dedication, enthusiasm and individual attention.

My greatest satisfaction as a teacher comes from seeing students develop confidence, overcome difficulties and achieve results they once thought were beyond their reach. Above all, I believe learning should be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. We can work hard, challenge ourselves, achieve our goals and, most importantly, have fun along the way!

My teaching philosophy is based on the belief that every student learns differently. With over 11 years of private tutoring experience, I adapt my teaching methods to each student’s individual learning style, academic ability and personal goals.

I combine clear explanations of scientific concepts with interactive discussions, visual learning resources, practical examples and examination-focused techniques. My lessons emphasise understanding rather than memorisation, encouraging students to develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills and confidence in their abilities.

Examination techniques and past-paper practice are available on request. I frequently use past examination questions as assessment tools to evaluate progress, identify areas requiring improvement and develop personalised learning strategies. This approach helps students become familiar with examination requirements, question structures, marking schemes and effective time management.

Lessons typically last 60 minutes, although longer sessions can be arranged depending on individual requirements. I offer one-to-one tuition and small-group lessons, providing a supportive, engaging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring challenging topics.

I hold a First Class Honours degree in Biochemistry, a PGCE, Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and TEFL certification. I am also currently studying for an MSc in Bioinformatics at the University of Birmingham.

My primary specialisms are A-Level Biology and Chemistry, alongside GCSE/IGCSE Science, international examination specifications, IB and BTEC Applied Science. I also offer IELTS Academic preparation and specialist Medical and Pharmaceutical English tuition upon request.

My lessons are open to students of all ages, from school pupils preparing for examinations to university students, adult learners and professionals seeking to develop their scientific knowledge or academic English skills.

Above all, my aim is to make complex subjects accessible, enjoyable and rewarding while helping every student achieve their individual academic potential.
