I am a secondary English Literature and Language teacher with qualified teacher status. I studied and achieved a PGCE in secondary English in 2019. I have experience teaching: KS3, 4 & 5. I also hold an ATHE Level 4 Subsidiary Award in Teaching Online and worked for two years at a leading UK online school. My methodology is firmly based on reader response theory; the idea that pupils can and should respond personally to a text. Examiners do not want to see the same recycled interpretation of texts. Which is why I do not “teach to the test” or “give answers” to the students I teach. Instead, I guide learners to be able to analyse texts critically and personally. Every pupil is different which is why every lesson will be different. I will assess each pupil's needs during our first lesson to find out exactly what they wish to gain from our sessions and exactly how I can help them progress. I have a wealth of resources for both English Literature and Language and I am familiar with AQA and CCEA, Pearson & Cambridge exam boards. I have experience teaching children with special educational needs. I also am available as an English as a foreign language conversation partner and essay proofreader up to master's level. As a teaching colleague of Sophie's I have first hand experience of her excellent teaching and of the highly positive attitudes of her students towards their lessons with her. Her one-to-one sessions with students who need extra support have been highly effective in increasing student confidence and introducing new skills particularly at GCSE and A-level.
I found Sophie a really invaluable reasource with my dissertation. She was able to identify, correct and enhance my grammar and punctuation skills. This was especially helpful as someone with dyslexia and ADHD. She was able to explain clearly the reasoning which helped me not to make the same errors.
