About Gemma
Hi, I’m Gemma! I’m an experienced primary school teacher and private tutor who loves helping children grow in confidence and discover what they’re capable of.
Having worked with children across the primary age range, in the UK and in international British schools, I know that every child learns differently. Some need a little more time and reassurance, while others thrive when given an extra challenge. I enjoy getting to know each child and finding ways to make learning meaningful to them, often incorporating their interests into our lessons.
My approach is warm, patient and creative. I want children to feel comfortable asking questions, having a go and making mistakes along the way. Maths can sometimes feel daunting, and one of the most rewarding parts of tutoring is seeing a child begin to believe, “I can do this!”
I work with children aged 3–11 and welcome families both in the UK and overseas, including those attending British schools abroad. I look forward to working with you to help your child feel more confident, supported and proud of their progress.

I offer friendly, personalised maths tutoring for children aged 3–11, from Early Years through to Key Stage 2. I welcome families in the UK and internationally, including children attending British schools abroad who would benefit from support with the English National Curriculum.
As an experienced primary teacher and tutor, I tailor each lesson to your child’s needs, interests and pace. Whether they need help understanding a tricky topic, building confidence or stretching their skills, my aim is to make maths feel approachable, enjoyable and achievable.
My lessons combine clear, step-by-step explanations with interactive games, practical activities and problem-solving challenges. For younger children, I use playful activities to develop early number skills. For older learners, we build secure understanding of topics such as multiplication, division, fractions, decimals and reasoning, with opportunities to practise together before working independently.
I create a calm, encouraging environment where children can ask questions, make mistakes and celebrate their progress. I also help them understand why a method works, so they can apply their learning confidently in school.
Online lessons allow your child to learn from home, wherever you are in the world, with availability across different time zones. We’ll begin by discussing your child’s current learning, any areas of difficulty and your goals, so our lessons complement their schoolwork and provide the support they need.

My 2 kids have been learning with Gemma since March 2026, and we have been very happy with her. She is patient, friendly, and explains things in a way that they understand.
We really appreciate how she makes the lessons enjoyable, tailored and keeps them engaged. We have seen their confidence improve since they started learning with her.
We would definitely recommend Gemma to other parents looking for a kind, supportive, and dedicated tutor.I would wholeheartedly recommend Gemma to any parent looking for a caring, dedicated and exceptional teacher.
Gemma was my son's Reception teacher. When he started School, he was pre-verbal, had very limited use of language, was extremely active and found it difficult to engage with learning. At that stage, he much preferred to play and struggled to remain focused or interested in structured learning activities.
From the very beginning, Gemma was attentive to his individual needs and took the time to understand him as a child. She was incredibly kind, patient, supportive and approachable, and never made him feel that his challenges were a barrier to his learning. Instead, she found different ways to engage him, using a variety of teaching methods and adapting her approach to help him understand and enjoy what he was learning.
What impressed me most was the way she made learning fun and accessible. She understood that my son needed learning to be presented in a way that captured his attention, and she consistently found creative ways to do this.
The transformation we saw in him by the end of Reception was remarkable. He had become verbal, more focused and engaged with his learning, and significantly more confident in his abilities. He developed a genuine love of reading, writing, drawing and solving maths problems. Most importantly, he began to believe in himself as a learner.
As a parent, seeing that change was incredibly rewarding. I truly believe Gemma played a significant part in helping him reach that point. She saw his potential, was patient with his journey and gave him the encouragement and confidence he needed to flourish as individual.
I am extremely grateful for the care, dedication and support she gave my son throughout his Reception year. She made such a positive and lasting impact on his early education, and I would highly recommend her without hesitation.Gemma was my daughter's teacher for her first term, and I can honestly say she helped my daughter thrive. She was and still is my daughter's favourite education person. Gemma taught her phonics and the beginning of learning to read. She made sure she was always listened to and always came out with a story to tell about what she and Miss Handley did. I would without a doubt have Gemma teach my girls again. Couldn't recommend her highly enough.
Gemma is a great tutor. My little one wouldn’t even write his name before starting with Gemma. I had tried everything (he was 4). Gemma just made learning fun for him. After his time with Gemma, he is excited about learning. Now, at 6, he is writing half pages of work in English, above expectations in Maths and reading. I cannot thank Gemma enough!
We honestly couldn’t recommend Gemma highly enough! She is such a friendly, approachable, and professional tutor, and she has made such a positive difference to our daughter’s confidence and progress.
Gemma is incredibly patient and encouraging, and she has a wonderful way of explaining things clearly and in a way that makes learning enjoyable rather than overwhelming. She takes the time to understand our daughter’s individual needs and always makes her feel comfortable, supported, and confident.
It’s clear that Gemma genuinely cares about her students and goes above and beyond to help them succeed. We have been so impressed with the progress our daughter has made since working with her, and it’s lovely to see her becoming more confident in herself and her abilities.
Gemma is an absolutely fantastic tutor, and we feel very lucky to have found her. We would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking for a kind, knowledgeable, supportive, and genuinely brilliant tutor!View more recommendations
