I’m 29 now, and I still consider Mark the best teacher I’ve ever had. He shaped my vision, helped me develop crucial skills early on, broadened my perspective on both life and academics, and played a major role in improving my written and spoken English.
Mark is a teacher who genuinely cares about both the subject he is teaching and his students. His dedication and discipline naturally inspire respect for him and for his classes.
To me, his classes were always the ones on the top of my list, i put the most work, enjoyed the most and learned the most out of it.

Mark was my undergraduate History professor and continues to be a great mentor and friend. I consider him to be the best teacher I've ever had.
He believed in my abilities long before I could recognize them myself. Mark has an easygoing and engaging teaching style that I loved, but what separated him from other teachers was his ability to bring out the best in me. He saw my strengths, but also provided me with constructive criticism and pushed me to learn and improve. I wish I could give Mark more than five stars!

Mark Baker is an outstanding professor, known for his exceptional teaching and advising skills. During his years at Koç University in Istanbul, he inspired many undergraduate and graduate students to pursue studies in Russian and Soviet history. In terms of faculty service, he also made significant contributions. He served as the coordinator of both the History Department and the Comparative Studies in History and Society graduate program. He carried out these demanding responsibilities with great success, ensuring that both programs operated smoothly. It was a great opportunity for me to work with Mark during the early years of my career. I learned a great deal from him.

I have known Mark for more than thirty years, and I can think of few people more trustworthy, kind, and understanding. He has a great passion for history and foreign languages, and I have also seen him in the classroom: Mark is a born teacher. Plus he's just a really nice person!
