About Kristen
I have spent 16 years as a public high school teacher. I have coached soccer and worked with students on all sorts of levels from basic math, to more advanced courses.
I am a positive, upbeat, supportive "coach" that truly wants to help you with math! I love when a student has that "ah-ha" moment and it finally clicks. I also recognize that not all students learn the same, and sometimes we just need to hear it differently, or present the material in a way that makes sense for you.
I prepare lessons for each student, individually, as I do not believe learning is "cookie cutter" style. My approach is always trying to build on what you already know.

I look to work together with students to target both their areas of strengths, and areas that we can build on. I believe it building, on prior knowledge, and delivering lessons that are engaging and in a way that a student has multiple opportunities to understand new concepts. Through guided examples, demonstrations and then supported student attempts, I build a lesson like I would a sport practice or band rehearsal. A warm up first, to touch on something we already know, a new skill or lesson introduced, set examples to practice, and then a chance for the student to demonstrate what they have learned. As a conclusion, we will always recap what we have covered to make sure there is an understanding.
I am looking to work with students in grades 7-12 primarily.
