About Elena
Bonjour !
I am a 29 year-old French native speaker currently working as a French and English teacher for children and adults in Nantes, France. I am a qualified Secondary teacher and Uni tutor and have been working as an MFL teacher with students of all ages and abilities for over 5 years. During the summer break, I now have availabilities to offer French/English lessons online again!
- I can personalize my lessons according to your needs and tastes :)!
- I develop differentiated methodologies (I can use a PowerPoint as a structure to the lesson but also various media), and can offer conversational lessons, grammar-based tutoring, speaking games, cultural activities, strategies to develop communication and confidence...
- The length and frequency are up to you. Rate is £27/hour (+commission) and I can offer one-off lessons but also intensive courses (e.g. 4 hours per day). Packages are also possible (for example a 5 lessons package for individual lessons would be £120 instead of £135!).
- Group lessons are also possible, should there be several people interested (e.g. in a group of 3 you would only pay £12 each!
- Every week the lesson has a theme/objective and I can adapt to my students` needs/preferences
- I can email any vocab and resources used after class.
I am available from from now onwards (with a break between July 28th and August 16th), and the hours can be flexible. I should be able to offer early evening lessons but have more availabilities in the daytime (FYI, there would be a possibility of continuing lessons after late August but I will have much more limited time slots).
Should you like a reference on top of the this site Reviews, you could google me ("elena rouhen Sussex Centre for Language Studies") and see that I recently taught remotely for their Open Course.
Here's a bit more about my experience: I was a Modern Foreign Languages teacher in a Secondary School in Brighton until I relocated to my French hometown in March during to the Covid apocalypse! I now also teach English as well as French (as foreign languages), to children and adults, in groups and 1-to-1 formats. I have over 5 years of experience in Education and love tutoring! I like to try and challenge the French grumpy stereotype:)! I always aim to create a safe and friendly atmosphere to put my language-learners at ease and maximise their potential! I think my strengths as a teacher are my patience, experience, positivity, humour and empathy.
Any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch :) !

I started studying with Elena in a group course and once that ended we transitioned to private lessons. In both settings, Elena was professional and prepared for each lesson while also being attentive to the class's needs. If required, she would seamlessly adjust pace or skip something to make sure everyone felt comfortable. For our one on one lessons, she also reached out and encouraged me to offer suggestions to help tailor my learning experience. I highly recommend Elena at as language tutor! I'm grateful for my experience with her.
We are so happy we chose Elena to be our French tutor. With Elena being french herself and living in France we feel we are learning in a very authentic fashion. Elena’s English is even better than ours and she makes us feel confident that we can learn French. Can not recommend her enough. Thank you Elena! Gina & Ben
Since starting lessons with Elena about 4 months ago I feel that my confidence in speaking french has improved. Elena is happy to do lessons focussing on grammar and conversation (on any topics I wish) and always comes to the lessons well prepared with a detailed plan for the hour. She is a great teacher who I would really recommend.
Elena R is a very helpful teacher of French. She is so obviously a trained teacher. This is evident in the way her preparation is cleverly organised. Her lessons are not only well-structured they are also enjoyable, so much so, that I really look forward to a lesson with Elena. I would expect that Elena is capable of teaching French at any level, from complete beginner, to the experienced speaker in need of advancement.
You will not be disappointed with Elena!Elena is clearly able to adapt to each student and always listens to their needs and preferences. I recommend her lessons both for her excellent language skills as well as for her human qualities! Being French, she also brings in a rare cultural authenticity.
She has taught French in British Primary and Secondary schools for over 3 yearsElena taught French to my daughter through private tutoring and I was very happy with the progress she made. Elena was enthusiastic and patient and my daughter liked it. I highly recommend this teacher, my daughter feels now more confident.
