About Hunter

I have always been deeply captivated by the richness of Spanish literature and the powerful narratives that shape the cultural landscape of the Spanish-speaking world. My academic journey reflects this passion, beginning with an MA in Spanish from the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where I immersed myself in the literary and cultural traditions of Spain and Latin America.

My love for Spanish literature is broad and includes an admiration for the works of Gabriel García Márquez, Javier Cercas, Pablo Neruda, and Jorge Luis Borges. Each of these authors has deeply influenced my understanding of narrative, culture, and the human condition. García Márquez's magical realism, Cercas's historical fiction, Neruda's poignant poetry, and Borges's intricate labyrinths of thought have all contributed to my literary appreciation and teaching philosophy.

In addition to my MA in Spanish, I also hold an MA in Art History, with a specialized focus on Latin American art movements from 1959 to 1989. This period was a time of profound political, social, and artistic upheaval in Latin America, marked by movements such as the political murals of Mexico and the avant-garde experiments in Argentina and Chile. My studies allowed me to delve into how artists responded to and shaped the cultural and political landscapes of their time, exploring themes of identity, resistance, and revolution.

Together, my academic background in Spanish literature and Latin American art history provides me with a unique perspective that I bring to my teaching. My goal is to share my passion for these subjects with my students, helping them to discover the richness and diversity of Spanish and Latin American culture.

Why Choose My Tutoring?

Tailored Teaching Method: My approach is student-centered, meaning I adapt my teaching style to fit your unique learning needs. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced learner, my lessons are designed to build your confidence and proficiency in Spanish. I emphasize interactive learning, where we engage in discussions, analyze texts, and explore cultural nuances.

Comprehensive Lesson Plan: A typical lesson with me starts with a warm-up conversation in Spanish to get you thinking in the language. We'll then move on to reading a selected text—ranging from classic literature to contemporary articles—followed by a discussion to ensure you grasp the content and context. I also incorporate cultural insights, grammar, and vocabulary exercises, tailored to your level and goals.

What Sets Me Apart: My deep academic background, combined with my passion for Spanish literature and culture, allows me to offer more than just language lessons. I bring Spanish literature to life, helping you connect with the texts and the history behind them. My lessons are not just about learning the language but also about appreciating the stories, traditions, and perspectives that make Spanish so rich and diverse.

My lessons are ideal for:

Students preparing for exams: Instituto Cervantes, AP exams, IB exams, university students studying Spanish, or anyone preparing for language proficiency tests.

Literature and culture enthusiasts: Those who want to delve into Spanish and Latin American literature, history, and cultural studies.
