THE ORTON-GILLINGHAM METHOD The program offered is based on the Orton-Gillingham method of reading instruction. This approach is named after a Neurologist, Dr. Samuel T. Orton and a Psychologist/Educator, Anna Gillingham. Dr. Orton was a pioneer in the field of reading failure and related language difficulties. He brought together neuroscientific information developing the most accepted and successful theory and practice for reading remediation. He founded the International Dyslexia Association. This approach combines multisensory techniques: Teaching the structure of written English, sounds (phonemes), prefixes, suffixes, roots and common spelling rules, using visual, auditory and kinesthetic approaches. The program provides students with immediate feedback and a predictable sequence. This method can be utilized on any age student that is experiencing reading difficulties. PARENTS’ TESTIMONIALS Within a period of 5 ½ months Keisha has developed to a point where she tries to read even newspapers by using the phonics system that she was taught. Mrs. Y. Harvey We only hope that where our next stop in the world is, that we find a teacher with half the commitment, ability and caring. The Hardimans, Hotel Managers From the very first day in your class, Caleb responded to your friendly yet firm approach, and his confidence has already grown. The Thompsons, Captains, Salvation Army Thank you for the miracle you have brought about in Rosean’s life……he has changed from an unruly, disruptive 7 year old who could not read to a child with a love for books and reading. Dr. L. Daley Cummins, Dentist My daughter is mildly Autistic. Most people seeing and listening to her would not believe that. Under your care there has been remarkable improvement. Mrs. Doriel Elliot We sent Nathan to you with high hopes but realistic expectations. However, we were pleasantly surprised to see improvement in Nathan’s behavior almost immediately and now his academic progress is improving radically. Dr. & Mrs. G. Brathwaite I believe the testimonials above would testify to the efficacy and success that my methodologies bring to my tutoring program.
