About Sophia
As a student at an Ivy-League institution (the University of Pennsylvania), I have taken great value in academics my entire life. In high school, I took 11 AP courses while holding leadership roles in various activities such as Newspaper, Speech & Debate, Senatorial & Mayoral Advisory Boards. I also held internships at a local magazine and published stories almost weekly.
One of the main reasons why I feel that I was able to experience and learn so much was because of the guiding figures -- mainly teachers -- in my life. A teacher can make or break one's learning experience. My hope is that I can help nurture your learning growth, whether that's by going through things step by step or exploring new subjects in an unique yet intriguing manner.

As someone who struggled with learning in certain classes in middle school, I realize that all students learn in a different manner and each student requires a different set of teaching skills. Therefore, my teaching philosophy necessitates that I know where my students' learning strengths and weaknesses lie.
For instance, if a student is a visual learner, I will employ graphics and visuals to enhance their learning experience. Or perhaps a student performs best when they practice, in which case, I will give the student multiple opportunities to hone their skills to master a subject.
I am comfortable tutoring various subjects, but the most important thing is how a student responds to my teaching -- which I will make sure to pay attention to. As for content, I can offer tutoring services in the following areas:
MATH (elementary level to Advanced Placement Math, including calculus concepts)
READING/WRITING (developing vocabulary, speaking skills, college essay help, writing help)
CHINESE (basic/beginnings of phonetics, reading, writing, grammar, to intermediate level Chinese)
