About Vanessa
I am a former teacher who graduated from the highly prestigious Teach First graduate scheme. While at work, I was commended on my ability to create an affinity with the students in my classroom and identify gaps in student’s knowledge quickly and address them. It is my greatest pleasure to see a student develop their confidence and become a master of a previously unfamiliar topic.
I also have experience designing curricula and monitoring student’s progression over time, so I embed my academic understanding of cognitive science into my practice to help student’s achieve. I like to think that I combine high expectations with an empathetic approach that acknowledges the imperfections that come with the learning process. I am completing a Masters at the LSE, so trust that I also know how tough it can be to grapple with new concepts! But patience and practice makes for success.

My teaching philosophy is very simple. Teach it, apply it, check it! I have found that this works at KS3, 4 and 5. My teaching philosophy of course is adapted for high and low ability students, but the aim of my lesson is to leave feeling confident to apply the new knowledge we have learnt together to the real world, exam questions, or longer discursive essay tasks. A typical lesson length with me will be an hour to 90 minutes.
I am highly experienced preparing students for public examinations, and have a wealth of strategies to help students excel at GCSEs and A Levels. I also can provide support with independent revision strategies, and can help implement good study habits with homework and regular assessment.
