About Joy
My classroom is one that focuses highly on compassion and kindness. I urge students to find the balance between their emotional and wise mind when it comes to historical investigation and content knowledge. I often compare historical writing as a process of portioning, measuring, and tasting. This helps me to weave in pop culture references like Harry Potter, Chopped, or even ASMR. I am strongly committed to love, safety, and sanity in my classroom. My classroom is a place where students all feel taken care of regardless of their socially and self prescribed identities.

My lessons are always going to be geared to getting you to practice the skill or content area multiple times with guided help from me. I always try to connect content to what you already know and I always pause to check for understanding. Learning is intense sometimes so I will incorporate breaks. I will encourage you to reflect on how you’re feeling about the skills or content.
