About Ryo
Hi, I'm Ryo, a rising senior studying Economics at UCLA, currently based in Tokyo. I grew up bilingual in English and Japanese and have spent years navigating both cultures personally and professionally, which gives me a genuine understanding of the challenges learners face on each side. Beyond academics, I've competed at a high level in basketball, including training in Japan, which taught me discipline, patience, and how to break down complex skills into manageable steps — the same mindset I bring to teaching language.

My approach starts with figuring out why you're actually learning the language, whether it's for travel, business, exams, or just everyday conversation , and building lessons around that goal instead of a generic textbook path. I'm a UCLA Economics student who grew up moving between the US and Japan, so I teach both English and Japanese from real bilingual experience, not just classroom theory.
A typical lesson mixes structured grammar and vocabulary work with active conversation practice, since I've found students retain far more when they're actually speaking rather than just memorizing.
