I'm a first-year philosophy student at the University of York. My philosophy degree gives me a lot of practise explaining complex problems in simple terms!
I also have experience as a sixth-form mentor for Year 11 maths students - at a grammar school (Royal Latin School).

Both Understanding and Practise are essential to succeeding in mathematics. A student who has one but not the other will be at a major disadvantage. This is why I prioritise both. I seek to understand the student so I can break things down in a way they will understand. I help them practise applying what they've learnt in different contexts, with a range of different types of questions. I also encourage them to practise on their own and teach them ways of doing so according to their needs. I always identify the student's strengths and weaknesses. Improving at these weaker areas is at the core of my lessons.
A typical lesson will last an hour, but I am flexible to do anything up to around 90 minutes.
