About Hong Sheng
I am a UK uni prof on a sabbatical in Cambridge. I like to use my free time in the evenings and weekends to help young people to achieve their ambitions in their studies of astronomy, physics, statistics and maths. As Richard Feynman once said, teaching challenges the teacher's own understanding of the material. If one could explain a complicated topic to a shopkeeper, then one understands the material at a deep level, deeper than someone explaining things using jargon and equations. I have previously many experiences with explaining research to journalists, and have given many public talks. I am confident and many audiences and students find my enthusiastic approach very stimulating.

I am a theoretical Astrophysicist with an interest in general relativity theory and galaxy dynamics. I use a range of tools in my research, including tensor and vector calculus, statistical thermodynamics and gravitational theories and applications. Typically I give an overall introduction to the field (say Astrophysics or Calculus, Statistical Mechanics), explaining key concepts using pen and paper as well as my own PowerPoints in past lectures and links to a selection of YouTube resources I used in my own university teaching. I will then answer specific questions, with the option of covering your lecture material at a desired level. My objective is to give enough tips for you to do your tasks, rather than doing your task for you. I give you feedback on your approaches, correct your errors, and encourage you to persevere. My style is informal, based on interactions. I will question you, and challenge and consolidate your understanding by giving related tasks at your newly grasped level. I can also assign you mock exam questions. I have resources of solved problems in physics and maths. I can also teach you how to use Mathematica software to solve questions and make plots. I can work with ages 15 to 51, typical length is 30 mins with an additional 30 mins on demand. I can give tuitions via Social Media online or in person in Cambridge college cafes.

Perfect! Very helpful and supportive, explains work well and knows his stuff. Hong is pretty flexible with scheduling lessons and sends over any notes he has made so you can look over them later.

- Very intelligent home-schooled student with some prior knowledge of astronomy. We talked through the solar system and its implications for planets and astronomy in general, linking astronomy with nuclear physics and life science.
