About Cathy
My name is Cathy Rojas and I'm a first generation college student, my parents are from Central America and Mexico. Because I learned Spanish in combination with English at school, I developed a fascination for languages, picking up French in High School. At USC, I obtained a BA in International Relations and French. Yes, I took over 8 yrs of french and studied abroad in Paris. Just a few years ago I had the opportunity to manage teams in France putting my French to use! I have been traveling a lot to Latin America and the Caribbean to learn more about my familial roots. While doing so I have fallen in love with speaking Spanish again and now teaching it. I try to make learning a new language FUN and remove the ego around "getting it right." The more you fail, the more you learn. Are you ready?

I employ a student-centered learning approach and like to role play through conversations and real world examples. A typical lesson plan involves story time, new material and a comprehension passage combined with small quizzes. What sets me apart is my lived experiences as a bilingual speaker who also learned a third language as an adult. Additionally I supplement my courses with cultural examples based on my travels to Spanish speaking countries. The lessons are for beginner Spanish students who may or may not know basic words but haven't taken any Spanish 101 course yet.
