About Maya

Hello! I’m Maya, a dedicated tutor with a diverse educational background and a passion for helping students meet their individualized learning goals. My journey includes attending trade school, community college, university, and graduate school, which has equipped me with a broad perspective on education and the unique needs of students at all levels. Along with my academic experiences, I have a strong teaching background, including serving as a Supplemental Instructor for undergraduate business students, working as a substitute teacher, tutoring, conducting research, and even nannying. These experiences have helped me develop the adaptability and communication skills needed to support students in a variety of settings. I believe that every student can achieve their full potential, and I’m committed to creating a learning environment that meets each student’s specific needs. Whether it's helping with core subjects like math, science, and English, or supporting advanced coursework, I focus on developing personalized plans that align with your academic goals. You can count on me to bring professionalism, patience, and a tailored approach to every lesson, ensuring that you feel supported and empowered to reach your goals. I look forward to working together and helping you succeed!

About the lesson

As a tutor, I understand that each student has a unique way of learning, and I am committed to tailoring my lessons to meet their specific needs. I take an individualized approach, working collaboratively with each student to identify learning gaps and areas where they may not be getting the support they need. Together, we will create a learning plan that focuses on building both understanding and confidence in subjects ranging from math and science to communication arts and social studies. My teaching is grounded in a growth mindset, where I believe that every student can develop their abilities through effort, perseverance, and the right strategies. By encouraging students to embrace challenges and learn from mistakes, I help them shift from a fixed mindset to one focused on improvement and growth. This approach helps students stay motivated and engaged, knowing that hard work leads to progress. In our sessions, I prioritize active learning, ensuring that students actively engage with the material through interactive activities like problem-solving, discussions, and hands-on exercises. This makes learning more dynamic and effective, as students take an active role in their education rather than simply absorbing information. Whether we're working individually or in a group setting, I focus on creating an environment where learning is collaborative, empowering, and enjoyable. Beyond one-on-one tutoring, I also offer group lessons, making me an excellent fit for individualized or homeschool learning environments. No matter the setting, my goal is to work closely with each student to ensure that they are supported in reaching their academic potential, building skills that extend beyond the classroom, and fostering a love of learning.

I have known Maya for almost 20 years. She is the kind of teacher who can really support her students. She helps make complicated topics digestible and really takes the time to listen and address things thoroughly. She holds students to attainable but high standards. She also encourages her students to reach their highest potential with honest feedback and appropriate rigor. I would advocate for Maya every time.
