About Christian
“When youth is gone, there only remains learning“. The journey has been long, full of highs and many lows. That is life, and learning is part of living. Youth has gone but sharing learning with youth is being alive, Hello to all. I am a semiretired financier. My career was in Engineering Contracting in the oil, gas and petrochemical industries. I worked with Vickers and John Brown/Davy as Director of Countertrade operations and Executive VP head of Project Finance for the Group negotiating contracts throughout the world and raising the necessary finance in the capital markets through multinational institutions and Export Credit agencies. I am happy to coach at advanced level/degree level in the essentials of international commercial Risk Management and Project finance. My family background meant that I grew up fluent in French, German and English. Educated through English Benedictine schooling I learned some theology, played rugby, rowed and fenced. A 6 month spell with the Jesuits in Paris started me on the road to Montaigne, La Roche-Foucault, Proust, Verlaine and Montherland. I then enrolled at the Sorbonne to read Philosophy and Modern Languages (French and German). One of my passions is Ancient Greece. Through philosophy and warfare, from Socrates through Marathon and Salamis to the lengthy Peloponnesian wars and Alexander the Great, Greece has formed the basis of western thought. The might of Rome which followed paid tribute in warfare and the Arts to the tradition passed on by Greece centuries before. 18th century Enlightenment in France with Voltaire and Diderot complemented what had started much earlier in England with Newton, Locke and Hobbes, all schooled and paying homage to Homer.
