Perfect! Bob Wolfman is a fantastic guitar teacher! In the short time l have studied with him I have greatly improved my study habits, music reading and guitar skills to a much higher level than I would have thought possible. My confidence has increased as a result and so has my pleasure and comfort in playing. Bob really cares about his students and every aspect of their guitar playing.
JanetPerfect! “My lessons with Bob have been such an exciting experience! If you are willing to put in the time and follow Bob's expert teaching, you will be able to play beautiful music and bring a new joy to your life. Bob's gifted talent and vast experience is impressive, his love of music and desire to share his passion is inspiring. Open communication is key, Bob welcomes your questions, he feels that no questions are silly or stupid, especially if you're new at this! He wants your feedback and encourages dialog to make your lessons meaningful and the best for you!”
Mary GPerfect! I was a self-taught guitarist with moderate skills looking to take my skills to the next level. Being able to write, play, and understand the why behind a guitar solo was one of my goals. I have completely met and surpassed all expectations with my guitar lessons with the Wolfman. He has the teaching experience to give me the tools and knowledge to elevate my guitar playing, and overall musicianship to a level that makes me feel confident playing rock, blues, and jazz. Whether you are a beginner or an intermediate guitarist, Wolfman has a program to get you to where you want to be and then some. Week in and week out I was given new tools, theory, and overall experience to bring to my own music and create new and more complex music than anything I have ever written before.
- Joe, thank you so much for your kind words. It's an absolute pleasure to be able to teach you. I always have a blast when teaching you and I appreciate your enthusiasm! You've come a long way and I hope you are as pleased with your progress as I am.Robert's response :
Thank you so much!
~Bob :)
Perfect! I started lessons with Bob as someone with zero guitar experience. I had purchased a guitar and tried learning on my own. This was not time well spent. Bob is very talented and has a wealth of knowledge and experience. Bob's classes are warm and inviting. He has a great sense of humor and makes the classes very enjoyable. Classes are well structured so that you learn the important basics and continue to build skills and knowledge as you progress. After three months, while you won't see me performing on stage anywhere, I believe I have learned a great deal and have a solid base to build on. I recommend taking lessons with Bob and you will see solid progress and understanding of music concepts that you can't get without proper instruction.
- Hey there John,Robert's response :
No, you definitely had some breakthroughs with your guitar lessons. I hope to see you back here real soon. Thanks for the review.😉
Perfect! The lessons match my skills and my goals. He keeps my busy and in a month I am already playing better than ever
- Hey Joe,Robert's response :
Thanks!!
Perfect! My grandson was very impressed with Bob at our first meeting and is. Excited to start all of his lessons. Beverly devito
Perfect! I've been studying with Bob for about 4 months and have learned a ton. He pushes me to be the best player I can be.
I've had many guitar teachers over the last 30 years but none of the skills ever stuck with me. Bob's teaching method and level of engagement is well beyond anything I've experienced before.
He's got a great sense of humor and really cares about his students, adults or children. Most of all he wants us to ENJOY playing, not just to learn skills.
I recommend that you contact Bob regardless of your playing style, experience or skill level. He will help you become a better musician, not just a good guitarist.- Josh,Robert's response :
It’s ridiculous how quickly you’ve progressed. I’m very proud and gratified. Keep it up and I’ll see you soon. Thanks so much for the review.
Perfect! I’ve been in a constant struggle, trying to teach myself how to play guitar for the past 20 years. Never really improved. A friend gave me Bob Wolfman’s brochure at a local guitar store and I called Bob that same day to schedule lessons......Wow! So glad I did, cause I started learning so much right away; music theory, reading music, Blues guitar, chord progressions, songs, and solo improvisation. I learned so much, and so quickly that I enrolled in Bob’s Apprenticeship Program. It’s amazing and fun! Bob is very patient, kind and an absolute professional guitarist and instructor. I highly recommend Bob to anyone wanting to learn.......Thanks Bob!
David Fraser
Lowell, MA- Thanks so much for this. Nice review David, really appreciate it!!Robert's response :
Perfect! I took lessons with Bob for 8 weeks, and was able to accomplish the things that I initially set out to do: have a better understanding of music theory, start to be able to read music, and to actually be able to play a song or two on the ukulele. Had my schedule not become impossible to work around, I would have continued. As someone who had never played ANY instrument, it's daunting to start at age 38, but this made it easier. I feel that I have the tools to continue to grow on my own. Thank you!

I first took lessons with Bob Wolfman back in 1994, after spotting a flyer near my school. I called him on a whim, seeking someone who could adeptly teach both technique and theory, especially in blues and jazz guitar. Bob was a revelation—his fingers and brain worked at lightning speed, and I always left each lesson feeling enriched with new knowledge.
After graduating, I stopped taking lessons, but the pandemic prompted me to reconnect with Bob for online lessons. Decades later, I am thrilled to find that Bob's charm, personality, and talent for guitar instruction haven't changed a bit.
For anyone aspiring to become an accomplished, well-rounded guitar player, I wholeheartedly recommend Bob. His expertise spans over the years and adapts with time, making him an excellent choice for both beginners and seasoned players. You definitely won't regret it!Reposting my review due to some grammar errors!
My experience with Bob Wolfman has been fantastic. I’ve gotten so much better at playing the guitar and I’ve learned more in the past 3 months with Bob than all my previous years before studying with him. As an almost intermediate player, I didn’t have a lot of music theory knowledge, and couldn’t improvise very well. Learning music theory with Bob was actually fun, and he explains things that initially seem super complicated in a way that’s easy to understand. Not only that, but now I’m applying the theory I've learned from Bob in actual music, and being able to implement things he taught me on the fly. This has given me a ton of confidence as a player. In addition to the music theory, my chord vocabulary and licks I can play on the fly have astronomically increased as well. I can’t recommend Wolfman’s School of Music enough! I am a student of Bob Wolfman at Wolfman's School of Music. I also brought the 10 Week Guitar Course for Beginners. I have found Bob to be a very knowledgeable teacher. I like how his
teaching style blends what I would consider formal musical training (reading sheet music, music theory, learning scales, etc.) with practical applications of the topics (learning licks and encouraging improvisation). On a personal level, he pushed me to maintain motivation, foster improvement, and push myself to learn more and train harder.
In regards to the 10 Week Guitar Course for Beginners, I have learned more from this introductory course than I have in years of casual playing. I was happily surprised to find the course contains both guitar specific information and fundamental music theory (e.g circle of fifths, chord construction theory, chord progressions). I'm finding that the theory aspect is applicable to other instruments as well. I never thought an intro guitar course would have information that was applicable to, say, the pianoI left a review for Bob Wolfman on another site after I'd been taking lessons from him for a few months.
Now a year later, my knowledge of theory, chord substitutions, jazz standards and jazz guitarists continues to grow.
I am increasingly able to apply the theory Bob has walked me through lesson by lesson.
Each time we play together, he has practical cues that help me improve my musical expression.
As I said in my first review:
"He knows what concepts and techniques I need to learn, he knows the order they need to be learned, and he has years of experience guiding guitarists using the most effective resources.
Because I am convinced Bob has me on the right path, I am practicing more than I ever have before, enjoying both the challenges and the successes along the way. ...
If you are willing to put your faith in Bob and put in the work, he can take your guitar playing to a new level".I've been taking guitar lessons with Bob Wolfman for almost six months now and I couldn't be happier! I've always dreamt of being able to play the guitar but never had the means or motivation to do so, and then I met Bob. In a few short months I've gone from not knowing anything about guitars to being able to play, and understand so many aspects of music; proper playing technique, music theory, reading standard musical notation, building a solid chord vocabulary, and building a repertoire of music that I enjoy. Now Bob is teaching me how to improvise. Bob is always trying to push you to be your best. Not only did I get an outstanding guitar teacher, but I also made a friend. To say that I highly recommend him is an understatement.
Jay Aldrich - Danvers MAHi, my name is Luke Rush and I live in Andover, Massachusetts. I've been taking guitar lessons with Bob Wolfman for four months. My first lesson with Bob was amazing. Bob showed complete interest in what I always wanted to learn about music. From the start Bob had me using the best books, musical examples, diagrams, resources and information to help me learn how to play guitar. Bob taught me all the things my past guitar teachers failed to teach me; major scale theory, musical keys, chord construction, all pentatonic scale patterns, reading standard musical notation, blues guitar, technique and theory, building improvisational solos, expanding chord vocabulary for other styles of music. I couldn't be happier with my lessons with Bob and his sincere devotion towards me as his student.
I am 6 months into Bob Wolfman’s guitar lessons and have made great progress. Bob gets to know you as a guitar player and tailors his teaching style to your needs. I came in with a pretty vague direction in mind, just trying to hone my skill a bit, but he has given me great direction, and now I have a strong practice regimine which I look forward to along with his lessons. When I came in I could only improvise over blues, my chord knowledge was minimal, and I couldn’t sight read. At this point my improvisation has improved immensely and we are quickly working our way into jazz improvisation, I can play any chord, and my sight reading is improving quickly. Two months into lessons I was accepted to Berklee School of music which I am convinced would not have happened without Bob. His handouts, teaching style, and encouragement are worth far more than what he charges.
Bob is the best! I've been struggling reading through guitar tab sites for months and months, but Bob helped me focus, make realistic goals, and his patience is beyond belief! Definitely a true master in his craft, I would recommend anyone to study with him. Very satisfied. A++
My two daughters have been taking piano lessons with Bob Wolfman for 4 months now. Their progress has been nothing short of amazing! They have improved in all areas of performance; timing, technique, interpretation, and their music reading skills. I'm also impressed that they've actually learned a lot of music theory which they've never had with previous instructors, and this has helped them in many ways, especially their confidence level and enjoyment. They're able to learn and develop much more on their own now, and my younger daughter has started composing her own music. Bob is truly gifted and wonderful musician and educator. Highly recommend him......FIVE STARS all the way!! Thanks Bob ;-)
I’m grateful to Bob Wolfman for challenging me to move off my former plateau as a classical guitarist and providing technical and musical guidance on how to do so. 5 Stars!! As an advanced intermediate classical guitar player, I was reluctant to contact Bob for lessons, but he teaches classical, and his website showed that he is one of the most experienced guitar teachers in the area, for all types of music. So I gave it a try, and have been very pleased with the results. My objective in studying with Bob was to improve my “musicianship” and strengthen my technical ability, to move closer towards reaching performance standard. At my first lesson Bob convinced me that my old, inexpensive guitar was hindering my music. This prompted me to buy a performance level instrument (a spruce-top Yulong Guo ). That alone made a huge difference in my playing. From the outset, Bob challenged me to tackle difficult pieces (for me) with a metronome. In particular, I worked on Carulli’s Nocturne de Salon, Sor’s Variations on a Theme from Mozart, and Villa Lobos’ Prelude #1 in E minor. I had been avoiding a metronome for years because it’s so much easier to play with loose timing. I recognized that doing so would help me work through technical barriers to my playing in general. After practice I now get through the difficult passages well. This exercise helped me greatly to improve my timing, tone quality and fingering accuracy in everything I play. I’m very grateful to Bob for challenging me, and helping me vastly improve in all areas of my Classical guitar playing.
"I wasted years trying to teach myself, and then watching videos on YouTube. I mean, the guy in the video is playing amazing guitar, but are watching like 100 times, I still can't play what I saw..........cause the guy in the video never actually shows you HOW he did it. I wish I'd started lessons with Bob a lot sooner. He actually shows me how, why, what, where.......I LOVE IT!!! I'm learning so much, the right way, at last! Thanks Bob!!" ~ Dave Hornsby (52) Peabody,MA
An amazing talented performer who also knows how to teach. Can get critical points across online and really improve ones playing ability. A truly gifted teaching musician.
I've had several guitar teachers over the years. I played as a kid but had trouble picking the practice back up as an adult for the usual reasons -schedule, financial issues, responsibilities, and the like. I tried several instructors before I met Bob. Some were more expensive, some less, but I still couldn't cough up the enthusiasm to make it stick. I'm so glad I kept looking and found him.My lessons were for an hour and it didn't take long at all for me to really feel like I was getting somewhere with my playing every week.
I have to admit that when Bob suggested Webcam lessons, I was dubious. I had studied with Bob in Boston and knew he was an excellent teacher, however, I didn’t think the format would work--boy was I wrong!
My daughter and I are both taking lesson with Bob over Skype and it’s pretty much the same as taking lessons in his studio. The only difference is there’s no time wasted driving to and from, waiting while my daughter has her lesson, etc., etc..
I’d definitely recommend this approach to anyone who wants the quality instruction only Bob can offer, but doesn’t happen to live next door to him.Dear Bob, I want to take a moment to commend you on the great teaching skills and patience you have provided to my son. Though we have been with you for three months I knew within the first hour that your knowledge would be invaluble in achieving my 13 year olds' dream of mastering the guitar. Now in the roughly 13 lessons he has had with you he is gaining a true understanding of the fundamentals of music, music theory and the ability to find the rhythm of even the most complex songs. It has been a pleasure to listen to him practice up in his room each day, and an honor to hear and watch the two of you play and laugh during each lesson. Your mentoring has not only improved his music 10 times, but it has also given him the desire to improve his overall attitude at school and at home. I won't drag this on, but I thought it important to share with you how pleased my wife and I are with our decision to hire you as his instructor, I would be completely and utterly pleased to recommend you and your passionate teaching to anyone who is looking for true direction and instruction on the guitar. You have opened my son to a whole new world of differant music styles and apreciation for both the new and the old rock as well as classical music, and with each new week I see him opening up even more in all aspects of his life. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Phill and Carrie Bishop
P.S can't say enough about your willingness to spend extra time on the weeks where he is having difficulty understanding a lesson, that to us speaks volumes about your dedication to each of your students.f you want to learn where to put your fingers on a fretboard I say go to YouTube, good luck and have at it. If you want to go to some "factory" and take half hour lessons with someone who doesn't really care if you improve, there's plenty of places around. If you want to learn to play guitar, become a musician, or if you already are a musician and want to hone your craft then call Bob Wolfman.
