About Marc

Who I Am & Why I Teach

I'm Marc, and I've been passionate about English education for over three decades. With a Master's in Teaching English and 30+ years as an AP English educator, I've had the privilege of mentoring nearly 400 students and guiding over 1,000 college essays to success.

What drives me to teach?

It started early in my career when I realized how transformative great English instruction can be. I've seen students who struggled with writing suddenly find their voice, and watched shy readers become confident critical thinkers who can tackle any text. There's nothing quite like that moment when a student finally "gets it" – whether it's understanding the deeper themes in literature or crafting that perfect college essay.
My teaching approach is personalized because every student learns differently. I've worked with students across all skill levels, from those who need foundational support to advanced learners tackling complex literary analysis. I specialize in AP Literature, Classical Rhetoric, and Critical Reading, but I'm equally comfortable helping with basic writing skills or college application essays.

Beyond the classroom, I'm also a music producer – creativity flows through everything I do, including how I teach. I believe learning English should be engaging, not tedious.

I'm here because I genuinely love helping students discover their potential as writers and thinkers. After 30+ years, that passion hasn't dimmed – if anything, it's stronger than ever.

About the lesson

My Teaching Methodology: Personalized, Practical, and Proven

After 30+ years in education, I've learned that one-size-fits-all approaches simply don't work. My methodology centers on personalized instruction that adapts to each student's learning style, current skill level, and specific goals.

What Makes My Approach Different:

I don't just teach English – I teach students how to think like skilled readers and writers. Instead of memorizing formulas or templates, you'll develop genuine analytical skills that transfer to any text or writing challenge you encounter.

My Three-Phase Learning System:
Diagnostic Discovery - We start by identifying your strengths and pinpointing exactly where you need support
Skill Building Through Real Application - You'll practice on texts and writing assignments that actually matter to you
Independent Mastery - My goal is to make myself unnecessary by giving you tools that work long after our sessions end

A Typical Lesson Structure:

Opening Check-in (5 mins): Quick review of previous concepts and any questions
Targeted Skill Focus (20-25 mins): Deep dive into one specific area (literary analysis, essay structure, rhetoric, etc.)
Hands-On Practice (15-20 mins): You'll immediately apply what we've covered with guided support
Wrap-Up & Next Steps (5 mins): Clear takeaways and preview of what's coming next

Why This Works:

Every lesson builds on the last, but I adjust the pace and focus based on your progress. Struggling with thesis statements? We'll master that before moving on. Ready for advanced rhetorical analysis? We'll push your boundaries. You're never bored, never overwhelmed.

What You Can Expect:

Lessons tailored specifically to your needs and goals
Practical strategies you can use immediately
Clear explanations without academic jargon
Honest feedback that helps you improve faster
A teacher who genuinely cares about your success
Whether you're preparing for AP exams, working on college essays, or simply want to become a stronger writer and critical thinker, my approach meets you where you are and takes
