About Jared
Hello! As you probably read with the literacy skills you already possess without my tutoring, my name is Jared and I am a fresh recruit into the world of independent contracting and tutoring. I am 20 years old currently attending Mount San Jacinto Community College in the final stages or receiving my associates in English and transferring to UC Berkeley.
To help cope with the psychic tension of corona virus lock down, I am offering my services to English students in need. I am intimately familiar with the struggles of high school students in AP and traditional English classes as I was personally in the trenches with them only 3 years ago. While I barely escaped with my sanity and diploma (albeit on honor roll) I think of the ways to earn money doing part time work, assisting the local youth through the public educational process is one of the more respectable of them.

In terms of the actual terms of tutoring, I am quite flexible as long as you are local, and completely flexible if the tutoring is to be online or over the phone. I prefer to meetup with the student at a local library but if arranged before hand I would mostly likely be able to do house calls.
Beyond just reviewing and critiquing student writing, I try to engage my students with the spirit of the novels themselves. Be it asking them how the excesses of consumerism in the Great Gatsby connect to our modern era of income equality, or even just getting them to appreciate the Cold War society in which The Crucible was written. This is the basis that enables students to not merely pass or scavenge an A from their English classes, but also come into College intellectually prepared with more than just anxiety and looming student debt.
An average lesson would involve an interactive lecture about the text being discussed and/or annotated in class along with guiding essay outline creation or perhaps even a short reading followed by critical analysis to help train the student in the kind of timed essay writing that is common place in AP courses. However, pure essay revision is also entirely acceptable and I am of course very liberal in my teaching style so I am open to suggestion or unique requests.
